San Francisco Commends Webzine 2005It seems as we’re liked around ol’ City Hall. This past Tuesday, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed a resolution commending Webzine 2005 for promoting independent online publishing. Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi introduced the resolution to the full board and it was passed by a unanimous vote. Who’d a thunk? We’re tickled pink at the honor and can’t wait for the trophy to show up so we can rub the spring for good luck. We do get a trophy, right? Here’s the full text of the Resolution Commending Webzine 2005. Webzine Podcasts Now Available
Unbelievable!Wow. In-friggin-credible! Everything. The quality of the panels & workshops, the vounteers, the emcess, the tech support, the Master’s Lounge, the sponsors, the volunteers, the parties and yes again, the volunteers all made this the most memorable Webzine in years. I know this is the first Webzine in years, but who is gonna forget it anytime soon? Over the next few days we will post audio of the panel sessions and workshops. They will all be released as individual podcasts. Look for the RSS feed here soon. We also have TONS of video, which is going to take a bit more time to digest. We are committed to getting all this out there for you, Mr. & Mrs. Internet, to hear, see, smell and dream about. Check out super talented Renegade Rene’s Meet the Zinesters series. Maybe you’ll see yourself or your friend embarassing themselves. Part one, two, three, four, five. Day Two
Day OneWow. What a frigging blast that was! There was so much indie love in the room, all three rooms. Saturday saw a packed house, with overflow capacity for Jacob Appelbaum’s stellar talk, which is now online. The sessions flowed smoothly, from panel discussions to workshops to the packed Master’s Lounge for the Blog Warez Dance Off. Thanks to everyone for coming out to the after party as well. I’m sure the incriminating pictures and video are already making the rounds. Day 2 is about to begin. Come on down and become part of the madness, or follow along in the wiki. |
NOW ONLINE: The Webzine Wiki WEBZINE is a real world, face-to-face celebration of independent publishing on the Internet. It's part panel discussions and speakers, part workshops and much freeform collaboration, schmoozing and after-party boozing. The panel discussions aim to inspire, the workshops are hands-on forums of learning and the Master's Lounge is the unstructured place to share knowledge, ideas and URLs. DIY to its core, Webzine is rooted in zine culture and the love of making our own media. INSPIRE: Panel Discussions & SpeakersTwo days of panel discussions and presentations from speakers covering a micro gamut of the independent publishing landscape. Hear from people who are turning mainstream media on it's head through self-reporting, culture jamming, citizen journalism, experimenting with new forms of audio and video broadcasting and of course, sticking it to the Man. LEARN: WorkshopsInspiration becomes creation when you make the tools and tricks work for you. Learn from leaders and creators of open source publishing tools, podcasts and video blogs. Step it up a notch by learning how to tailor your message, perfect your content with proper internet architecture and this new thing called microformats. SHARE: Master's LoungeWe would be lying to you horribly if we tried to tell you that we've covered everything and everyone there is to know in the world of independent online publishing. The Lounge is a place where you can share your ideas, project, URL or whatever you happen to be working on with fellow allies and future friends. This area will be an open, self-selecting and self-scheduled space equipped with a digital projector and a round table. Gather 'round and exchange knowledge and contact info. Webzine 2005 is AccessibleOnline tickets for Webzine 2005 went for an amazingly low price of $22 for the whole shebang. Day passes were $13 in advance. That's less than 1% the cost of some other well known annual conferences, all without the guilt, grime or starch. Webzine 2005
