The official blurb:
Webzine Podcasts Now Available
Unbelievable!Wow. In-friggin-credible! Everything. The quality of the panels & workshops, the vounteers, the emcess, the tech support, the Master’s Lounge, the sponsors, the volunteers, the parties and yes again, the volunteers all made this the most memorable Webzine in years. I know this is the first Webzine in years, but who is gonna forget it anytime soon? Over the next few days we will post audio of the panel sessions and workshops. They will all be released as individual podcasts. Look for the RSS feed here soon. We also have TONS of video, which is going to take a bit more time to digest. We are committed to getting all this out there for you, Mr. & Mrs. Internet, to hear, see, smell and dream about. Check out super talented Renegade Rene’s Meet the Zinesters series. Maybe you’ll see yourself or your friend embarassing themselves. Part one, two, three, four, five. Day Two
Day OneWow. What a frigging blast that was! There was so much indie love in the room, all three rooms. Saturday saw a packed house, with overflow capacity for Jacob Appelbaum’s stellar talk, which is now online. The sessions flowed smoothly, from panel discussions to workshops to the packed Master’s Lounge for the Blog Warez Dance Off. Thanks to everyone for coming out to the after party as well. I’m sure the incriminating pictures and video are already making the rounds. Day 2 is about to begin. Come on down and become part of the madness, or follow along in the wiki. Welcome to Webzine!
It all starts tonight!Tonight’s the night! We’re celebrating the opening of Webzine at Cafe Du Nord 8-10pm, but you already knew that. For you last minute ticket buyers, there is a bit of good news. Online ticket sales have been extended through 6:30pm TONIGHT. Get them online and save $10 over the weekend pass or $5 off the day pass. We’ve added a few things to things to the schedule to give you even more incentive to drink the Webzine kool-aid. [FEATURED SPEAKERS] Jonas Luster (Freya, Sunday, 4-4:20) [WORKSHOP] [FUN STUFF] Video screening: This Spartan Life (Valhalla, Sunday 4:30-5) Webzine Wiki Open for BeeznassLike all good grassroots geek events, we’ve got a wiki. For you. Yes you. This wiki is the place to share information with attendees about yourself, your project or just find out where the nearest Internet cafe is from the venue. This will also be the place for scheduling the Open Sessions in the Master’s Lounge, which opens for signups Saturday morning at 11am. You’ll hear more about that soon. For now, feel free to share your intimate details of geekery and help us expand our knowledge base. Friday night kick off partyWebzine is a mere 4 days away, but whose counting? Please join us this Friday night for the official Webzine 2005 kick off party at the Cafe Du Nord, sponsored by our friends at SFist. Webzine attendees will get in free from 8-10pm. Find your favorite SFister once you enter and grab some of those coveted drink tickets. Schmooze, booze and get jiggy with DJs Karen and DJ Rock Foxy of Touch Me I’m Sick. If you have registered for Webzine, you’re already on the guest list. If you haven’t gotten your tix yet, then what are you waiting for? Online ticket sales end Thursday night at 8pm, so get ‘em now while they’re still $22 for the weekend. If you just can’t make it to Webzine, but you want to come party with us anyway, send us an RSVP and we’ll add you to the Friday night party guest list. Blast from the pastBack in 1999, there was a television show called Wild Wild Web that chronicled the interesting and the hype of the Internet. Apparently, they found Webzine 99 interesting enough to do a segment on our little event. Here is it is, in all its dated glory, but just as relevant today as it was then. Thanks to Chris Pirillo for digging this gem up. Enjoy. |
NOW ONLINE: The Webzine Wiki WEBZINE is a real world, face-to-face celebration of independent publishing on the Internet. It's part panel discussions and speakers, part workshops and much freeform collaboration, schmoozing and after-party boozing. The panel discussions aim to inspire, the workshops are hands-on forums of learning and the Master's Lounge is the unstructured place to share knowledge, ideas and URLs. DIY to its core, Webzine is rooted in zine culture and the love of making our own media. INSPIRE: Panel Discussions & SpeakersTwo days of panel discussions and presentations from speakers covering a micro gamut of the independent publishing landscape. Hear from people who are turning mainstream media on it's head through self-reporting, culture jamming, citizen journalism, experimenting with new forms of audio and video broadcasting and of course, sticking it to the Man. LEARN: WorkshopsInspiration becomes creation when you make the tools and tricks work for you. Learn from leaders and creators of open source publishing tools, podcasts and video blogs. Step it up a notch by learning how to tailor your message, perfect your content with proper internet architecture and this new thing called microformats. SHARE: Master's LoungeWe would be lying to you horribly if we tried to tell you that we've covered everything and everyone there is to know in the world of independent online publishing. The Lounge is a place where you can share your ideas, project, URL or whatever you happen to be working on with fellow allies and future friends. This area will be an open, self-selecting and self-scheduled space equipped with a digital projector and a round table. Gather 'round and exchange knowledge and contact info. Webzine 2005 is AccessibleOnline tickets for Webzine 2005 went for an amazingly low price of $22 for the whole shebang. Day passes were $13 in advance. That's less than 1% the cost of some other well known annual conferences, all without the guilt, grime or starch. Webzine 2005
